Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

In the UK, around one in ten people suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, a distressing group of symptoms in which the bowel becomes abnormally sensitive, resulting in constipation, diarrhea, bloating and wind. There are a lot of other effects such as difficulty sleeping, depression and anxiety.

Causes of IBS

Although the cause of IBS may be difficult to determine, there is evidence to suggest that stress exacerbates the problem and, following research by gastroenterologists have found hypnosis to be widely accepted as an effective treatment for the condition.

The benefits of hypnotherapy may be felt immediately.  Clients learn about stress management and relaxation methods to help regain control over their symptoms.

Hypnotherapy can work in conjunction with conventional medical treatments and are in fact, offered by many hospitals. The sessions help identify stressful situations and triggers that contribute.

Other Considerations

Diet may also be an important contributor, clients are encouraged to complete a food diary to help identify food habits and diet-related triggers that can contribute to IBS.
